My tuition reimbursement programs would never pay for liberal arts courses, only courses that directly had to do with their industry: IT and business. While it makes sense on a financial level, all that schools are doing now is churning out specialists. The Greek liberal arts system was meant for all of their citizens to be generalists or jack of all trades. When one job market sinks, these workers will have nothing to fall back on. Not to mention that a liberal arts degree teaches you to critically think, a trait uncommon in our modern society. But what do I know? I’m not an ex-CEO now governor.
